Collegiate Weekend is Heading your Way!!

Have you heard?  All the best of Collegiate Week will be rolled into one jam-packed weekend of teaching, worship and breakout sessions!  Pete Wilson and Robby Gallaty will share from the main stage and worship will be lead by Carlos Whittaker.  Students and leaders will benefit from breakout sessions covering topics from relationships to leadership to missions and everything in between.  Extras include a Friday night rooftop party overlooking downtown Nashville and Saturday tailgating...you bring the school spirit.

New Evangelism Resource on the Way!

Good News!  A new evangelism resource is headed your way from Threads!  The new study, Engage, will be available starting August 1 and you can get your copy at lifeway.com.  For those of you making plans for the new school year, we just wanted you to have the low-down on this upcoming resource in order to be able to implement it into your Fall or Spring programming.  Also, it would make a great training tool to help prepare your students to take part in Engage24 on 10/10/13 (www.engage24.org).

Here are some of the specifics for what this resource will include...as well as info on the authors:

SUMMARY DESCRIPTION

Engage: A Practical Guide to Evangelism is a practically minded topical study on the various areas of evangelism — understanding the gospel, why we should share it, how to defend the gospel, and how to share it. Geared for a no-prep small group experience, it will be facilitator led with a strong discussion focus. Follow-up personal study experiences will be provided and strongly encouraged. (4 sessions)

OUTLINE

Session 1: What Is the Gospel?
Purpose: An explanation of what the Bible says about God, sin, and Jesus’ role in reconciling us to our Creator. What does the “good news” mean, and how does that shape my life?

Session 2: Why Share the Gospel?
Purpose: Understanding the heart behind telling others about Christ and developing a passion for evangelism

Session 3: How Do I Defend the Gospel?
Purpose: Prepare for spiritual attacks against the gospel when sharing with the lost.

Session 4: How Do I Share the Gospel?
Purpose: A practical look at how to share your faith story with unbelievers

Session 1:  J.D. Greear is lead pastor of The Summit Church, a multi-site congregation in Raleigh-Durham, North Carolina.

Session 2:  Rob Turner is teaching pastor and team lead over Gathering Ministries at Apex Community Church in Kettering, Ohio.

Session 3:  Derwin Gray, a former NFL player, is the lead pastor of Transformation Church in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Session 4:  Ben Reed is the small groups pastor at Long Hollow Baptist Church in Hendersonville, Tennessee.

• Location: The First Baptist Church of Denton, Texas
• Host: Austin Wadlow, the Collegiate Minister of FBC, Denton, Texas (940-382-2577)
• Cost: There is no registration cost. Those attending are asked to register with Austin at AustinW@Firstdenton.org
• Lodging: Holiday Inn – 4485 North I-35, Denton, Texas 76207 (940-808-0600) The rate is $69.00 per night. Each participant is responsible for booking their own room.
• Purposes:

Call 2 Ministry Events are conferences designed to lead high school, college, and post-college students to discover, embrace, and pursue God’s call to a Christian related vocation and to ministry leadership. Conferences include dynamic speakers, resource filled workshops, and practical follow-up steps to answer God’s call successfully.

Objectives:

• To guide students to discover, embrace, and pursue God’s call to any area of Christian related vocation.
• To provide an opportunity for students to interact with respected ministry leaders and missionaries from around the country and around the world.
• To present resources to student leaders designed to focus a student’s skills, interests, talents, spiritual gifts, and passion for ministry.
• To clearly communicate the need to be men and women of integrity.
• To lead students to identify and engage in service opportunities in their local church, association, state, and nation while they are still in school.

Desired Outcomes
Successful events result in students who:

• Understand the importance of their high calling.
• Have a stronger impression and relationship with the Convention.
• Are aware of and engage in various types of ministry while still in school.

Good News about Collegiate Week & Your Family

Make that Great News!

FBC, Crosby TX will provide Childcare at Collegiate Week this year. They are bringing a volunteer mission team of trained and experienced child care workers who will offer age appropriate kids' activities for children birth to 6th grade. The cost will be $25 per child paid on site to FBC. This will include a t-shirt, some snacks, and supplies. There will be a ratio of 1 leader per 3 kids.

Child care will be offered from 8:30am -12:30pm and from 6:30-10pm Monday through Thursday and from 8-10pm on Sunday.

Hooray! And, thank God for Jeff Holloway, Robin Butler and the great people at FBC Crosby!!

2011 Collegiate Ministers Fellowship

All local, state and national collegiate ministers are invited to attend the 2011 Collegiate Ministers Fellowship annual meeting from Monday, July 11th to Wednesday, July 13th at the BCM at the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville, Arkansas.

The purpose of meeting is to provide opportunities for fellowship, and idea sharing. Church and campus based collegiate ministers are invited to participate. There is no registration fee. Most of the meals are provided by seminaries and agencies. Each participant is responsible for his or her lodging.

Lynn Loyd, the BCM Director at the University of Arkansas will serve as host of the meeting. Anyone who would like to attend is asked to email him at Lloyd@absc.org or call him at 479-521-0125.
